ACP Students Make Their Voices Heard at STARS CGI Town Hall
Hear from two of our students!
"The STARS CGI Town Hall was an extremely insightful and beautiful experience for me. From the second we got there, we were welcomed by a community of young female leaders. The Town Hall was an empowering experience that gave us the chance to speak upon ways we could better our community. Personally, I found that the best part was when we separated into breakout rooms and got to discuss topics like the allocation of resources, and how funding should be given towards non-profit organizations. As someone representing the Armory Foundation, I found it pleasant to hear from the perspectives of other young women from different non-profit organizations. Overall, I found the event to be a perfect venue for young women, like myself, to share their voices. I hope to attend more gatherings like this in the future!" The STARS event was a very motivating event for young girls and women where we talked about politics, businesses and the importance of having someone or something to stand for and represent our communities. Whether that community is an ethnic group, sexuality or social class everyone should be supported. In the group I was in we talked about private sectors and non-profit organizations and how a lot of private sectors take advantage of nonprofits just so they can get more publicity or make it seem like they stand for something they really don’t. For example, big organizations only add diversity or support for the black community during black history month and once the month is over they forget all about inclusiveness and the community as a whole. The same thing for pride month, the LGBTQ+ community is only supported for that month and afterwards is left to fend for themselves. In the end we all agreed that big organizations should be more diverse and inclusive all year around for the greater good not just to make their numbers go up.

We're so proud of incredible young women from our Armory College Prep program who participated in the recent STARS CGI Youth Town Hall on March 23rd!
This event brought together youth representatives, NYC Council members, and other leaders for a crucial conversation about the importance of funding for nonprofit organizations like STARS CGI.
Our students played a role in advocating for these vital community programs and expressing their concerns about potential budget cuts. Their voices and passion were truly inspiring!
