In Commemoration of Former Mayor David Dinkins

The Armory remembers former mayor David Dinkins, who has passed away at age 93. Mr. Dinkins was New York City’s mayor from 1990-1993. He was also the city’s first and only Black mayor.

In 2016, The Armory honored Mr. Dinkins with the “David Dinkins Starting Line” for his handing of the building’s keys to Armory late founder Dr. Norbert Sander in 1993. The hand-off sparked the transformation of a homeless shelter into a lively community site and the fastest track in the world.
