A few weeks ago, PLACE FORWARD fellows from the Mailman School of Public Health came to The Armory to learn more about the work we do and our impact on the community. Folashade Wilson and Janelle Micaela S. Panganiban put together this video and shared it at their 2024 Equity Showcase.
As fellows, there were responsible for developing videos highlighting organizations in Washington Heights. They presented their project and shared a short video that compiled special moments from each interview.
Through the FORWARD Fellows program, the Office of the Dean provides resources for academic departments, research units, and school offices to collaborate with student Fellows to design and implement initiatives fighting oppression and white supremacy. The program focuses on the professional development of fellows around anti-racist organizational change, concepts and tools for advancing racial equity in organizations.
Special thanks to Janelle Panganiban, Folashade Wilson, Peter Lewis, and Mailman School of Public Health Digital Learning Studio for showcasing the work we do!

Huge congrats to Odin!
This incredible 8th grader just landed a spot at the prestigious Brooklyn Latin School! Odin has been a shining star at The Armory since 5th grade, dedicating himself to his studies and excelling both on the track (running with CityTrack since 5th grade!) and in the classroom (participating in our Great Minds program this year).
We’re so proud of Odin’s hard work and dedication! He credits his success to taking the application process seriously and putting in the extra hours. Now, he’s excited to dive into the International Baccalaureate classes and dominate the high school track scene!
We’ll miss having you around, Odin, but can’t wait to see what amazing things you accomplish next! #NYCSpecializedHighSchools #BrooklynLatin #CityTrack #GreatMinds #ProudPrincipal #FutureStar #InternationalBaccalaureate #TrackandField

Today, CityTrack & Little Feet took a break from our usual routine to witness a truly extraordinary sight: a solar eclipse!
As the children arrived, we equipped them with special solar eclipse glasses and a commemorative event t-shirt. Then, together with their coaches, they ventured outside to a designated viewing area located between Fort Washington Ave and Broadway on 169th St. There, with approximately 170 children participating, we had a front-row seat to witness over 90% of the sun being covered!
For roughly 15 minutes, our students were captivated by this awe-inspiring natural phenomenon. Many were even joined by their parents, making it a truly special shared experience.
Following this celestial spectacle, we returned indoors and continued with our regularly scheduled program of running, jumping, and throwing exercises.

We’re so proud of incredible young women from our Armory College Prep program who participated in the recent STARS CGI Youth Town Hall on March 23rd!
This event brought together youth representatives, NYC Council members, and other leaders for a crucial conversation about the importance of funding for nonprofit organizations like STARS CGI.
Our students played a role in advocating for these vital community programs and expressing their concerns about potential budget cuts. Their voices and passion were truly inspiring!

Our Armory College Prep students recently embarked on an exciting adventure to broaden their college horizons! We journeyed beyond the familiar streets of NYC to explore the beautiful campuses of Villanova University and the University of Pennsylvania! ✨
For many of our amazing students, this was their first time experiencing a college campus outside of the city. They were impressed by the unique atmosphere of each university! ️
At Villanova, they learned about the school’s rich history and even met their mascot, the energetic Wildcat! They were surprised to discover that Villanova is just over an hour away by train, making it a great option for students who want to stay close to home.
Both campuses offered insightful student-led tours, giving our students a glimpse into college life. They peeked into classrooms, explored libraries, and even got a sneak peek at the delicious food options!
This trip was an invaluable experience, sparking curiosity and igniting the college dreams of our students! We are so proud of them for taking this important step towards their future!
