More Than 100,000 People Vaccinated at The Armory
100,000+ People Vaccinated at The Armory
The Armory’s track has always been resilient in the literal sense.
Resilience, as it applies to a surface, might best be defined by its elasticity or its degree of “bounce.” In the athletic realm, a resilient track is sought-after for a solid return on foot-striking-ground investment, ultimately yielding a bouncy, comfortable, and efficient run.
For the past six months, community members have entered our arena in a bittersweet pursuit of a different type of resilience. NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital reimagined our home at Fort Washington Ave. & 168th St. as a Covid-19 vaccination center in early January. Within a week, the oval was transformed.
89 days and 200,000+ shots later, on May 14, more than 100,000 people had exited the track with an “I Got The Shot” sticker. We would call this a stride in a promising direction for our neighborhood, our city, and beyond.
As the vaccination effort in our arena comes to a close, we owe a profound and unmeasurable thanks to the 1,500 staff members and volunteers from NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia, and Weill Cornell for their commitment to protecting our health and safety.
