Uptown Games Return to The Armory

On Sunday, October 30th, 2022, The Armory Foundation welcomed more than 1,000 community members to spend Halloween Eve at the Uptown Games, which featured an afternoon of activities for 1st-8th graders from Washington Heights, Inwood, and Harlem.

Children were asked to come in costume, and they did not disappoint! (See the creative assortment yourself by looking through the photos on this page as well as the complete galleries here.) To get the day started, participants received Halloween-themed track meet bibs, which served as “tickets” to enjoy the ensuing activities, such as that at the next stop: a fitting for one-of-a-kind Armory puffer jackets and gloves. With new gear to stay warm outside, it was time to warm up the track with some movement!

Next, children took to the arena’s infield for a guided, upbeat dance session for family members in the fourth-floor balcony section to watch. In addition to the renovated Armory Cube, ribbon board — making its event debut! — lining the arena's perimeter added to the festive look and feel. Music led the children into a parade around the track oval to show off their costumes before transitioning into stationed rotations: infield dashes, 200m runs on “the fastest track in the world”, scooter races, KPMG’s Book Nook, and toy store.

Neighbors ages 60 & older that participate in Seniors AIM High at The Armory programming also joined the event for track-and-treating festivities, including photo booth fun.

The Uptown Games is the first official event of the 2022-2023 track season. For the full calendar, visit armorytrack.org.
